Course Information
Description General Psychology is a survey of the major psychological topics, theories and approaches to the scientific study of behavior and mental processes.
Required Textbooks Textbook Purchasing Statement: A student attending Lamar State College Port Arthur is not under any obligation to purchase a textbook from the college-affiliated bookstore. The same textbook may also be available from an independent retailer, including an online retailer.

The required textbook for this course for the current semester will be the OpenStax Psychology textbook available for free reading online and for free download as a pdf document. Grading Scale GRADING POLICY: Your final course letter grade will be based on a percentage of 1000 total required points as follows:

NO COURSE ACTIVITY SCORES OR GRADES WILL BE DROPPED WITH THE EXCEPTION OF PRACTICE ACTIVITIES WHICH WILL NOT BE INCLUDED IN CALCULATING YOUR COURSE GRADE. There may be opportunities for extra credit in this course.

4. All exam, quiz, assignment and project scores will be used in calculating your course grade. No course activity scores or grades will be dropped with the exception of practice activities which will not be included in calculating your final course grade.

8. This course will require turning in all work using the Blackboard course website

9. Plagiarism, written or oral, will result minimally in failure of the assignment (1st offense) and failure of the course (2nd offense). Suspicion of academic dishonesty will result in required verification that the student is the actual author of assignment or activity.

10. Attendance or participation in class activity is expected daily and punctual.

11. The instructor expects that students will display mature behavior in online activities. This includes being responsible for your actions and treating your classmates, instructor and yourself with respect at all times. Failure to do so may result in your removal from the classroom or the course.

12. Instructor requires all written assignments be typed using Microsoft Office Word Application-file format doc or docx and submitted to appropriate Blackboard assignment submission upload page.

13. Plagiarism in this class will not be tolerated. Any assignment submitted that contains plagiarism will earn an automatic zero. Further action may be taken as determined by the instructor, including verification that the student is the actual author of the assignment or activity.

15. The instructor will deal with non-compliance instructor policy components on a case-by-case basis.

16. Instructor will not accept resubmissions or corrected assignment documents.

17. The instructor officially does not allow food, drink, alcohol or tobacco in the classroom meetings for this course. This policy agrees with official college policy.

19. Students will complete all required and bonus quizzes and exams and activities online using the Blackboard learning management system.

20. Students shall know and practice the skill of creating and sending email messages.  Students will send all email messages to the instructor using the course email tool or the student's official LSCPA email account. 

21.  Students must complete psychology core assignment drafts 1,2 and 3 as well as the final version core assignment. Students will submit these required assignments as a series of 3 drafts and a final version. Students will create the 2 draft documents in numerical order so that the student can correct section errors in the drafts before submitting the final version, based on feedback given on the earlier drafts.

22. If a document does not have a draft version, the instructor will grade these documents as submitted and the document will retain the grade the instructor assigns to those assignments.

23. Students should use their official LSCPA email account to send messages to the instructor or to request grades.

25. All students requesting a disability-related accommodation or accommodations , such as additional online testing time,  must  arrange such accommodations through the Office of Disability Services and the Disability Services Coordinator. Attendance Policy Research has shown a strong positive relationship between attendance, participation and college success. I strongly recommend regular participation in this course, both mental and physical. Participation will help you succeed in this course. CAUTION: I will not automatically drop your name from the class roll because you do not participate in class activities. MAKEUP WORK: Makeup work may be completed by students who miss class because of official college activities. Verification by means of a written message by a college official or sponsor is required to allow makeup work to be completed.
